Newsletter 1st May 2016
We hope you like our new weekly newsletter format. It will evolve and change as we work to get it “just right”. Feel free to let us know what you think. We are also working on updating the Church Directory 2016. A paper copy is on the table in the entry foyer so please check that your details are correct and make any appropriate changes. If you would rather telephone or email us, the office contact details on this page. Thank you to those who have already done that.
Have you seen the new website?
It can be found at athelstonechurch.org.au. We are starting to use it for a range of current information about our church and community. News, events and announcements will be available there as well as worship service themes. Coming activities like the Sounds of Silence quiet day or Packing Day are there too, just look on the top menu under Activities. Best of all Geoff is putting up a “blog” under the section “ Geoff’s thoughts”. Feedback is welcomed.
For news of the wider church in South Australia and beyond please continue to use the link to UC e-news at http://sa.uca.org.au/uc-e-news/
This magazine is produced by the Uniting Church in South Australia for members to be encouraged in their faith and to learn more about our church. It’s great to take to a family member or friend as a talking point. There are always current copies in the entrance.
Prayer for Australian Aid
Diedre Palmer, our Moderator and President Elect, has written a pastoral letter to all congregations highlighting our concerns with the current Governments reduction of Overseas Aid. She writes in part…
As many of you would know, in 2014, the Government cut the Australian Aid program by $11.3 billion over four years.
Further budget constraints to Australian Aid will see another $224 million cut. This will see the aid budget fall to its lowest level ever in Australian history…
The Uniting Church has joined a wide range of Church leaders to express concern over the Government’s scheduled budget cut…
“If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:17
Join me in praying for God’s discernment for those who are making budgetary decisions regarding Australian Aid. Pray that they will be considerate and responsive to the World’s most vulnerable people and let this be reflected in how much we give financially. Please also join me in praying for those who are assisting with the delivery of relief and aid, that God may sustain them and strengthen them as they undertake the necessary support required of them in their respective roles.
