Leadership and Followership

Leadership and Followership

We live in a leadership saturated age. Certainly churches are obsessed with it.
Perhaps this is because with significant numerical decline we are looking for heroes who can save us and pull us out of a “slump”.
Apart from the fact that thinking “we are in a slump”, is not a great reading of history, this expectation that the of salvation of the church will be a result of the actions of a few gifted individuals does damage to all us. Those of us who are leading are constantly being evaluated on our performance. And those of us who are following are left with the impression that our part is somehow less significant.
Leadership is about trust. Who do we let make decisions on our behalf and why.
What did Jesus ask of Peter?
Follow me!
Peter was primarily a follower. That’s why he led the early church.
