Sunday 10 June 2018
Greetings and welcome to this week’s newsletter

A Note from Linda
This has been a week of journeying with people who, like Samuel, have heard God’s call and are learning how to listen for God’s guidance in their lives (1 Sam 3). It is such a joy and privilege to be able to listen and pray with people who are open to God’s leading. There is a restlessness in the wind.. what is God up to? May we as a congregation be open to the leading of the Spirit.
Blessings,Linda

Packing Day SUCCESS: thank you, thank you, thank you
Whether you provided food, helped in the kitchen, greeted people, unpacked goods, packed goods, recycled materials, put together boxes, set up/down –  a huge thank you. Packing Day is a team effort and the success of the day is a reflection on the wonderful team that we have at Athelstone UC. It was a time of fun and fellowship.
We packed 43 boxes for the Aboriginal communities:
15 boxes for Maningrida
10 boxes for Yirrkala
6 boxes for Ramingining
4 boxes to Gangan
4 boxes to Barrkira
4 boxes to Dhalinybuy
We packed 25 bags and 3 boxes of goods for Goodwill. We also made up 2 large boxes of emergency clothing to be used by mission groups in Adelaide.
To Balhannah Uniting Church we sent a station wagon full of items that they will box up and send to the Alice Springs Old Timers’ Fete to be held later this year.
The items that come for Packing Day arrive packaged in a variety of ways. Thank you to the recycling team who packaged up this:
1.5 Bales (Yes full sized ‘Wool’ Bales) of cardboard and paper to Newton Recycling
7   Bags  (About 70 kg) of rags and soiled clothes go to Goodwill Recycling
3   Bags of soft plastic/plastic bags goes to Coles Recycling
Bag of hard plastic and metal goes to AUC’s Recycling Yellow Bin
Rubbish to go to Landfill in AUC’s Blue Bin
A fabulous community effort – packaging about 1.2 tonnes of clothing and goods to people in need and recycling over 90% of the “waste”. Keep the first Sunday/Monday/Tuesday in June 2019 free so that you can be involved in Packing Day too.    Jayne Nicholas

Stay & Play Playgroup
We will recommence in Term 3 on 31st July.
We currently have a full enrolment of 25 with 6 children on the waiting list, so new helpers on the team are always welcome.  Maybe someone would like to start a new group so we can continue our outreach in this area.    Bruce and Joy Stewart  Phone: 83362671 or bruceandjoy@bigpond.com

Uniting Communities Eastern Services
The cold winter months are with us and for many years now, the Athelstone UC congregation have been great supporters of the Uniting Communities Eastern Services office at Beulah Park by providing tinned food for distribution for those in need.  Suitable food items include tins and packets of soup, “chunky” type meals, baked beans, spaghetti and other tinned meals; cereals, pasta and pasta sauce, and tinned vegetables.
Please place any items on the table inside the Church and I will ensure that they are collected and taken to the Uniting Communities office.                                       Thanks,   Brenton Summers
