Spring Fair” – Saturday, 21st October 2017
With the exception of large furniture items, good saleable items are required for our up and coming “Spring Fair” and your donations would be very much appreciated.  This includes toys, books, giftware, glass and crockery items, kitchen ware, puzzles, games, Manchester, clothes, artworks, DVD’s etc . It is planned that the shed will be open every Sunday morning from 9.15-9.30am for convenient drop off.         For further information see Di Curtis

“Music & Worship Gathering” – Tuesday 22nd August – 7.30pm – 9pm
One of our goals determined for Athelstone for the next few years is to establish a team that continues to foster vibrant and engaging worship each Sunday.   To get this happening I would like to invite anyone interested to come along to an initial gathering on Tuesday 22nd August, between 7.30pm – 9pm down in the chapel.
Come along for some singing, and some enthusiastic discussion about ways we can enhance our worship into the future.
I look forward to your company!                                                                                                 Dianne Curtis (0419-862-606)

Sounds of Silence – Sunday August 13th – 8.15 am in the lower chapel
Please join us for a time of quiet reflection and contemplation as we look at some images of God both in form and in creation and then reflect on some of our own experiences of God.   All welcome

August is Wider Mission Month
Envelopes will be available for our giving towards The Kiribati Fresh Water project.
We aim to raise $2,000-$2,500 to support the Church in Kiribati develop a fresh water supply for the people in a diminishing situation.   Our BBQ is one way to help raise the money, the other is through direct giving.   Anything you are able to contribute will be greatly appreciated.   Your envelope can be placed in the offering bag any time during August.

With Love to the World
The latest edition of this daily devotional resource has arrived.  We have ordered several extra copies at a cost of $5.00 for 12 weeks.   If you would like to try… please pick up a copy from the foyer or Sharyn’s desk.    There is an envelope attached for ease of payment, or to put in the collection.

Induction of Rev. Linda Driver – Wednesday 30th August at 7.30pm.

Opportunity
This month at church we are talking about money and opportunity.  Currently as a church our expenses are greater than our income.  To overcome this shortfall we need to increase our giving by 20% or $20,000 per year.  This equates to roughly $10 per household per week.
An increase in giving will not just help balance our budget but also enhance our opportunities for living out our mission, for loving our community, for sharing the Gospel and taking on new challenges.  The easiest way to give is via the eGive program through UC Invest.  Forms are available on line via the UC Invest website or from our Treasurer Glen Luestner.

Prayer Chain – Brenton is away, so please send emails to Lee O’Connell at  leeoconnell56@gmail.com
Shoe Boxes of Love
It is time to start thinking about what you could put into a shoebox. Although we will not be collecting them until late September/early October you could already be sewing, knitting or buying. I will have access to the brochures in the next few weeks if you would like one now. Just let me know.
Thank you for your past involvement in this program.  Any questions please talk to Friederike 0458078839

Packing Day
Packing Day is an excellent way in which we can serve Aboriginal communities in northern Australia. After 2 successful years of coordinating Packing Day, Ros is ready to hand over the reins to someone else.  We are looking for a small team of volunteers to co-ordinate the event at Athelstone in 2018.  If you are interested in taking on part of this role, please contact Victoria.

Cans of Food
Cans of Soup, Baked Beans, Casserole type meals, etc. are very welcome to be donated to Uniting Communities who in turn distribute them to those in need.   Please leave any contributions at the back of the church.
