This includes toys, books, giftware, glass and crockery items, kitchen ware, puzzles, games, Manchester, clothes, artworks, DVD’s etc . It is planned that the shed will be open every Sunday morning from 9.15-9.30am for convenient drop off. For further information see Di Curtis
“Music & Worship Gathering” – Tuesday 22nd August – 7.30pm – 9pm
One of our goals determined for Athelstone for the next few years is to establish a team that continues to foster vibrant and engaging worship each Sunday. To get this happening I would like to invite anyone interested to come along to an initial gathering on Tuesday 22nd August, between 7.30pm – 9pm down in the chapel.
Come along for some singing, and some enthusiastic discussion about ways we can enhance our worship into the future. I look forward to your company! Dianne Curtis (0419-862-606)
Fresh Water Supply for Kiribati
The Wider Mission committee is grateful for those who have already made a donation to our project in Kiribati.
To date $2173 has been received towards our target figure of $ 2500 ($1600+ from the BBQ and $560 in donations).
The BBQ was a wonderful evening of fellowship and great food and entertainment.
Our thanks to all who contributed in any way.
If you still wish to give to the project you may do so until the end of the month.
Envelopes are available in the porch.

Shoe Boxes of Love
It is time to start thinking about what you could put into a shoebox. Although we will not be collecting them until late September/early October you could already be sewing, knitting or buying. I will have access to the brochures in the next few weeks if you would like one now. Just let me know.
Thank you for your past involvement in this program. Any questions please talk to Friederike 0458078839

Wirra Words of the Week
“Spectacular displays of large flowers, many flowers, colourful flowers etc, make a garden better.”
Natural happenings are natural in a wirra.” Wal Bushman
We’re going on a Bulbine hunt this week! With the Autumn rains, those of you with sharp eyes will have noticed some tiny succulent green leaves appearing in the wirra. It is NOT grassy weed, although there are plenty of those too! They are the perennial plant Bulbine bulbosa (native leek). It can grow 20 to 50cm tall with 6 yellow petals 10-15mm long. You might spot some under the gums at the northern end of the wirra, but there are more at the southern end near the reed swamp. Watch for the flowers in Spring and then they will die back to underground corms in Summer. If you are careful not to disturb the rootstock, they will multiply and provide another glorious mass display next year. Our endemic natives are often more subtle than the average exotic garden plant and consequently the Bulbine can be an excellent native substitute in a garden for daffodils.
Packing Day is an excellent way in which we can serve Aboriginal communities in northern Australia. After 2 successful years of coordinating Packing Day, Ros is ready to hand over the reins to someone else. We are looking for a small team of volunteers to co-ordinate the event at Athelstone in 2018. If you are interested in taking on part of this role, please contact Victoria.
