Sunday 16th September 2018
Greetings and welcome to this week’s newsletter
A Note from Linda
We’re into our third week with James and Christian Living. This week we’ll look at the power of the tongue – it can harm and it can heal. It can bring people down and it can build people up. Come and hear more!
As mentioned last week, I’m going on Study Leave for the next two weeks from Monday 17 September and returning on Tuesday 2 October. During this time I will participate in a Ministers’ Retreat (COMN), a Pastoral Partners Seminar, a Mentoring Seminar and the UnitingWomen conference plus I’ll be working on an assignment!
As usual, if you have any pastoral concerns during this time, please contact Brenton Summers or one of the other members of the Pastoral Oversight team: Ann Brown and Bob Stevenson.
Blessings, Linda
Messy Church
Thanks to everyone who came to our first official Messy Church last Sunday! 53 people came. Together, with the theme of Love your World, we had fun exploring faith and shared a meal together. Thanks to everyone who helped in any way – it was a fantastic team effort! Our next Messy Church will be on Sunday November 11.
Please contact Meg for more info.
Spirited Sunday – September 16 – At the Rezz
It’s on this Sunday! You are invited to come and connect with people in our local community with a great speakers and great conversations. Bring a friend, join us in the alfresco area around 6.30pm, order a meal, then engage with speaker Ivan Copley (from 7.00-7.40pm).
Ivan-Tiwu Copley OAM, JP is a Peramangk/Kaurna man who was raised around Plympton and the sand hills of Glenelg North in South Australia. His achievements for working with non-Aboriginal and Aboriginal peoples for reconciliation and the recognition of his people were honoured in 2005 with the Premier’s Award for Community Achievement, and again in 2009 when he received the South Australian of the Year Award. More recently, Ivan received the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in 2012.
Housekeeping Issues
Thank you to the two kitchen fairies who moved the pie warmer to the bench so it is available for events and another one who cleaned our cupboards. We appreciate you!
Please check the kitchen for any plates you may have left lately. Sharyn
Spring to it!! Spring Fair – 3rd November – 8am – 1pm
The Spring Fair is only a couple of months away now. Time to have a spring clean and find some items to donate to our Spring Fair. Also time to pot us some plants for the Plant Stall. Looking forward to a great team effort again.
For enquiries please contact Di Curtis (0419-862-606)
Let’s make September Operation Christmas Child month!
Now is the time to start packing those shoeboxes. Lynette Beck will be sharing at church this Sunday and I will have a display/swap table set up from then on.
If you can’t put together a box, all donations whether goods or money are welcome.
Remember that we need to cover the cost of the box and a $10 fee for handling. Every little bit helps and together we can be successful.
Blessings to you all, Friederike
