Greetings and welcome to this week’s newsletter
A Note from Linda
As I write this note I have a view out the window to the sunny Gold Coast. I’m here for a meeting of the Uniting Leaders task group: a SA and QLD Synods joint venture whose mission is to enhance Christian leadership amongst individuals and teams across the Uniting Church. I’m thankful for this opportunity to serve on this task group and for the lovely sunshine!
Leaders can be defined as those who have an influence on others, and as those who can see where we could be (a desirable future) and know how to help others get there. As Christians we lead as a response to the leading of the Holy Spirit (like Samuel!) and a genuine love for our community. Have you considered what influence you have on others? (in the church, or your family, or your study/workplace?) Is this an area where you would like to grow? If so, let’s have a chat!
I’ve been umming and ahhing about whether to go to the UnitingWomen 2018 conference or not.. the last one in Adelaide was sooo good! This morning I ran into some members of the planning team who asked, “Are you coming?” I didn’t have an answer.. What do you think, Athelstone Uniting Church folk (who happen to be female).. shall we go??? Read on for more details, and if you are interested please let me know ASAP and we’ll try to organize a group to travel together. UnitingWomen 2018, 27-30 September, Brisbane “Weaving Wisdom and Wonder” – a time for Christian women to gather, grow and be inspired. For young women, older women and women in-between! Uniting Communities Eastern Services
The cold winter months are with us and for many years now, the Athelstone UC congregation have been great supporters of the Uniting Communities Eastern Services office at Beulah Park by providing tinned food for distribution for those in need. Suitable food items include tins and packets of soup, “chunky” type meals, baked beans, spaghetti and other tinned meals; cereals, pasta and pasta sauce, and tinned vegetables.
Please place any items on the table inside the Church and I will ensure that they are collected and taken to the Uniting Communities office. Thanks, Brenton Summers
