Sunday 17th March 2019
Greetings and welcome to this week’s newsletter
A Note from Linda
Faith, Hope and Love. These three things are at the heart of being followers of Jesus. Come join us as we continue our Lenten series based on the book ‘Being Disciples’ by Rowan Williams.
Faith challenges and frames our understandings about God. Hope requires memory of the past and patience for the future. Love is received before it is given.
(There are a few copies of the book left for purchase at $13 each. Contact Sharyn in the Office for more information.)
Spirited Sunday – 17 March, 6.30 for a 6pm start
Spirited Sundays are an opportunity to engage with our local community with great speakers and great conversations. Bring a friend, find a seat in the alfresco area, order a meal then, at approx 7pm, engage with a great speaker. Our speaker is Professor Ian Olver AM (Member of the Order of Australia). Ian is a medical oncologist, bioethicist and researcher. He’s going to engage us with lots of thought provoking information about the ethics involved in medical research.
Coming Sunday evenings at Athelstone Uniting Church
17 March – 6.30 for 7.00pm – Spirited Sunday at The Rezz with speaker Prof Ian Olver
24 March – 6.00pm – Prayer Walk

All are welcome to any of our Sunday evening activities, and as usual are welcome to join us for dinner or a cuppa each Sunday night at The Rezz afterwards.

Ending Poverty and Building Hope
This year we are partnering with the Protestant Church in Timor Leste (East Timor) through prayer and financial support in areas such as primary health care, leadership training, child protection and the provision of clean water in poor, remote communities.
On Palm Sunday (April 14 ) there will be a special offering to receive our gift envelopes, money boxes, and tea and coffee contributions. Alternatively if you wish to give using a credit card or cheque these may be sent direct to Uniting World using the Lent Event envelope.
Envelopes, money box stickers and the Lent Event booklet are available in the porch.

Letter received from Christmas Bowl
How wonderful it was to receive your kind and generous gift to the Christmas Bowl! Thank you for bringing hope and healing to families in need around the world.
Your gift of $1310.30 will have an immediate impact for Rohingya families in Jamtoli refugee camp in Bangladesh, who have lost everything and are struggling to find shelter, food and clothing.
Your gift will also help people in other communities around the world who are affected by conflict and disaster, providing them with the resources and skills they need to solve their own problems and get back on their feet – affording them dignity and respect and the practical means to manage their own lives.
