A Note from Linda!
This week our theme is ‘Welcoming with open arms’. This has been my experience of coming to Athelstone: you have welcomed me and I have seen many examples of others being welcomed with open arms too. Thank you!
Last week I spoke about the significance of the wooden cross on the Communion Table. It is called “Comfort and Joy” and was created by retired artist Jim Svensson. Written on the bottom are the words: “when viewed from the inward side, the cross portrays the comforting arms of Christ’s love, care and protection and when viewed from the other side it symbolises the outward arms of joy and celebration of life with Jesus and his victory on the cross”. May this be our model as we open our arms in worship in response to Christ’s love for us, and extend that invitation of love to others.
I’m really excited to let you know that next Sunday (24 September) Victoria Pederick will bring us the Message. This is part of a new preaching plan where I will preach on the first three Sundays and the fifth Sunday of each month. On the fourth Sunday we will have a variety of people who will bring us the Word – some from within the congregation (like Victoria) and some ordained and lay preachers from the wider church. I will also be introducing something special on some of the fifth Sundays – an opportunity to try something different and creative.
.and finally, my days off this week will be Wednesday and Friday.

Spring Fair Meeting – 17th September
To ensure that everything is ready to go for our Spring Fair on 21st October, there will be a short meeting this Sunday 17th September after church at around 11am. Everyone is welcome to come and especially those setting up and organising stalls. Let’s look forward to our Spring Fair and I encourage everyone to get involved in some way.
For all enquiries, please see Di Curtis (0419-862-606)
Cans of Food
Cans of Soup, Baked Beans, Casserole type meals, etc. are very welcome to be donated to Uniting Communities who in turn distribute them to those in need. Please leave any contributions at the back of the church.

I have the brochures and boxes for these; if you would like one, just let me know.
Although we will not be collecting them until late September/early October you could already be sewing, knitting or buying. Thank you for your past involvement in this program. Any questions please talk to Friederike 0458078839
Spring Fair Yarn bombing
Thank you to those who have already offered to knit or crochet and share your creativity with the local community through our yarn bombing activities. Donations of wool (preferably 8ply or more, new or previously used) in greens and browns for tree trunks, and small quantities of any coloured wool for birds, can be left in the front foyer or with Sharyn in the office. If you still want to join the joyful band of knitters or crocheters, see Joy to provide tree measurements or Sharyn for patterns.
Come and join the fun and express your creativity! Joy Stewart
