Talking about Missional use of property

On Friday 23rd I will be hosting a gathering of interested people to discuss the “Missional use of church property” which will be resourced by John Emmett. We will hold this in the chapel at Athelstone Church.
John worked recently within the Victorian/Tasmanian synod of the UCA to help the church face a financial crisis that necessitated the sale of several congregational properties. He will be talking with people about what the church can learn from that experience.  Details of John’s time in WA can be found at http://faithinaction.net.au/
There are 2 really interesting documents there… “Reconfiguring Church Property for Community” and “On being a missional church”.
All interested members are invited to attend. 6.00pm for pizza in the supper room and later in the chapel for discussions
I’ve also invited John to share with us in worship on Sunday 25th.              Geoff

Gardening Team

The end of the month is almost here again and we will be weeding, pruning , sweeping ,talking , laughing and sharing a cuppa and cake afterwards. Everyone welcome to drop in at the church between 9 and 11, We would love to see you,     Lyndon

The Inner Wheel Club of Tea Tree Gully are holding a fundraising screening of
Bridget Jones’s Baby”, Sunday 25 September, 5.30 for 6pm at the Regal Theatre, Kensington Road.  $15 per person.    Fundraising this year for Guide Dogs SA.  If you would like to attend please see Coralie Summers.

Shoeboxes   It is time to start packing your shoeboxes!

Remember to pack something for a child to love; to wear; to play with; for school; for personal hygiene and something special.   Brochures and boxes will be available after church from this Sunday 19th September. The collection date will be sometime in October.
I also have a request from our region’s contact person, Lynette Beck: “Please be in prayer for people who could help with processing from Oct 4 till Nov 22. We especially need at least 2 men for each shift to help with packing cartons and some of the tasks which require a bit more strength. Also, I really need people who can help as welcomers at the centre. Please consider who in your group of contacts might be suitable – 1 name with contact details would be a great blessing to me”.       If you can help in any way or need more information then please ask.   Friederike

Fete & Garage Sale – To be held this year on November 5th – 7am – 1pm

Please put this date in your diary and plan to be there and get involved in a great day of fun and sharing together.
As in other years we will have a wide range of stalls – both food and saleable items and your help on these would be appreciated.  September is traditionally “Spring Clean” time so have a sort through at home.  We are accepting saleable goods – toys, books, games, china, glassware, giftware, household goods, bric-a-brac, electrical, furniture etc. and very grateful for all donations.  Also it’s a great time to pot up some pot plants now that the warmer weather is with us.
The Plant stall has been a great success and contributions of plants and garden accessories would be great.

Stay & Play are planning some children’s activities, on the day of the Fete & Garage Sale, among them “cook in the nook”, a “musical fence” and “bubbles” sounds like fun!!  Please start saving small plastic bottles, (spring water type) to assist with the bubble blowing.   And what about “yarn bombing the trees in the garden to brighten up the precinct?  Talk to Joy Stewart if you wish to be involved with donations of yarn or knitting, no technical skill required, long straight scarfe type is what is needed.

Disarming the Church Alarm

We have become aware that some folk are a bit uncertain of how to disarm the alarm in the church foyer.  If you would like a refresher lesson, contact Sharyn at the office.  Also if you don’t think you need your key anymore, please feel free to hand it back.

Uniting Communities – Cans of Food

Soup, Baked Beans, Casserole type meals, etc. are very welcome!  These are delivered to Uniting Communities each week.  Thank you to all who are donating!

Giving Sunday

On Sunday September 4th we focused on our giving as a church.  For anyone who missed this, there is still an opportunity to do so.  Envelopes are in the front foyer and we ask members to consider their financial contributions to the life of this church.
