Sunday 1 July 2018
Greetings and welcome to this week’s newsletter
A Note from Linda
It was such a joy last week to worship at the Synod meeting, led by our own worship team. Congratulations to each of you for rising to the challenge. Thanks for the hours put in to learning new music, rehearsing and travelling to and from Adelaide West Uniting Church (near the airport) 3 times in 2 days! I heard many positive comments about the worship!
Thank you to everyone for contributing to a delicious lunch last Sunday. Special thanks to Victoria for coordinating us! Mike Rayson said, “What an AMAZING lunch! Leaves American potlucks in the dust.”
Over the next few weeks we will immerse ourselves in the Psalms. The Psalms are songs, poems and prayers that express a huge range of emotions, poured out from the heart. We’ll have a look at how they can help our own prayer life. This week we’ll begin with psalms of lament. Blessings, Linda
The Adelaide Rep Theatre is currently staging a comedy called ‘Perfect Wedding’ at the Arts Theatre at 53 Angas Street, and you may like to join a proposed AUC group outing to see this play on June 30th at 8pm.
Tickets are $22 per adult, and $17 for concession card holders, SA Seniors card included. Tickets may be bought on the night at the venue, or pre-booked online if you prefer, via www.adelaiderep.com.
You may also like to have dinner at the nearby Wakefield Hotel at 6pm, before going on to the show. If this appeals, you can call the Wakefield Hotel on (08) 8223 1622, and add your numbers to the booking under the name of Louise Jennings. Many of you may not know that our own Philip Lineton is a Board Member of The Rep Theatre Company, and also a talented actor, so it will be great to support his company with our attendance. He guarantees a good show! Hope you can join us for a great night out! Sylvia Maywald.

Spirited Sundays are an opportunity to engage with our local community with great speakers and great conversations.
Notes from Church Council
As if it is nearly July!!! Council met again last week to discuss many items of business. These included the following:
• Our appreciation for the huge amount of effort that goes into the wonderful Sunday worship services
• We celebrated the continued growth and success of the new activities on Sunday Evenings, in particular, ‘Spirited Sundays’ at the Rezz
• We appreciate the progress in building maintenance and continuing efforts to enhance the safety of everyone who uses the church property.
Council also granted Mike O’Connell’s request for a leave of absence for August to December as he undertakes his next assignment in PNG. We are very excited for Mike as he takes up this opportunity to utilise his skills. Church Council is in the process of setting up interim arrangement for the Secretary role during Mike’s absence.
Please let a member of council know if you have feedback or would like us to consider a matter. We appreciate your continued prayers, encouragement and support – Victoria

Uniting Church Assembly – July 8-14
For many weeks now, we have been praying for the upcoming Uniting Church Assembly meeting to be held in July. (The Assembly is the national council of our Church and has responsibility in matters of doctrine, worship, government and discipline, sets national policy and promotes the Church’s mission in the world.) Among a number of important matters on the agenda, are Reports and Proposals on Marriage and Same-Gender Relationships. Briefly, this includes a Proposal to adopt a new policy statement on marriage between two people to live together for life. The Proposal includes freedom of conscience for Ministers to accept (or decline) requests to celebrate same-gender marriages and for Congregations to permit or refuse the use of their property for the use of same-gender weddings. Across the breadth of the Uniting Church, this has been received in many different ways, with some folk welcoming proposed changes, some who are deeply concerned and some who are still discerning what Christ is asking of his Church. Please consider reading the papers prayerfully (https://uniting.church/) and contact Linda if you have any questions. Please continue to pray for the elected members at the upcoming Assembly and incoming President Deidre Palmer.
