Newsletter for Sunday 20th May 2018

Sunday 20th May 2018
Greetings and welcome to this week’s newsletter
A Note from Linda
This Sunday we join the church around the world as we celebrate Pentecost. In Acts 2, we hear how the Holy Spirit was poured out on Jesus’ first followers on the day of Pentecost.
Pentecost, the day when Jesus’ promise was fulfilled, the day the prophet Joel had dreamed of and the day when all believers were empowered. Come and join us this Sunday morning as we celebrate with images of fire!
Don’t forget the Retreat on Saturday and Spirited Sunday at The Rezz on this Sunday evening!
Blessings, Linda
Frontier Services Retiring Offering
On Sunday 27th of May our preacher in the morning service will be Rev Sunil (Sunny) Kadaparambil. Sunny is the Bush Chaplain, Parkin Sturt Patrol, for Frontier Services. You may remember reading about him in a recent issue of New Times (he was featured on the cover). Frontier Services is a mission agency of the Uniting Church. Read more about them here:
To show our support for the ministry of Frontier Services, we invite you to contribute to a Retiring Offering on the day.

‘Messy Together’ will be held on Sat.2 June from 10am-4pm at The Salvation Army, Tea Tree Gully.

Uniting Church Assembly – Melbourne 8-14 July
We have received a message from our Moderator, Rev Sue Ellis regarding the upcoming 15th Triennial Meeting of the Uniting Church in Australia Assembly, which will be held in Melbourne from 8-14 July, 2018.
The first lot of papers are being released on the Assembly website here including reports relating to marriage and the Royal Commission. The Moderator knows that people have been concerned about the Assembly proposals, conversations and decisions, and how they might affect our congregations and faith communities. With this in mind, she is initiating a series of listening forums. She has invited mission networks to host some of these forums in May and June 2018, and will be inviting other groups to share their thoughts with her as well. The details of these listening forums are still being determined. Further information will be shared through UC e-News and New Times online in the coming weeks. All Uniting Church members are invited to visit the Assembly meeting website and to subscribe for updates. Please keep the Assembly, elected members and Uniting Church leaders in your prayers

Ann Brown has kindly offered to coordinate the catering and is looking for people to make soup and biscuits/slices/cakes. Wirra Words of the Week
The Activity Space is a central focal and gathering space in the wirra, not only for Stay and Play children and carers, but also for local workers to enjoy a pleasant green space during their lunch break.  The original bowl shape has been edged with a log path, protected from the public footpath by dense plantings of endemic grasses.  The addition of a large flat log and a tiered group of logs has provided opportunities for children and adults to interact with a range of creative/dramatic play.  With the addition of temporary props, it can become a soup kitchen, a mountain to climb or a harbour for boats.  It is a space that can easily accommodate children’s love of messy, sensory experiences with water, sand, soil or bubbles. It’s visibility and accessibility via the central wirra path provides local children as well as our Stay and Players a safe green space to explore within their neighbourhood….Joy Stewart
