Geoff’s Last Service
After a wonderful 18 months at Athelstone, it will be Geoff’s last service with us at AUC this Sunday 27th August.
Please come along to the 9:30am service and bring a plate of morning tea to share as we bid Geoff and Jenny farewell.
Geoff will be moving on to Balhannah Uniting Church where he has accepted the call to be Minister of the Word. Balhannah will be very blessed to have Geoff and Jenny!

Email from Nola & Dean
We are overwhelmed and humbled with the expressions of love and practical support we have received from this congregation since my fall.   I am on the road to recovery and looking forward to resuming my normal roles.  “Thank you” feels so inadequate.  We thank God for the love and generosity of Athelstone UCA.         Dean & Nola Pearce

Kiribati   – We’ve almost reached our target
Thanks to those who have already contributed to the Kiribati Fresh Water project.   Just another $177 to go and we will have reached our target of $2,500.   Officially, Wider Mission month concludes this Sunday but we will keep it open for another 2 weeks for those who have not already given and wish to do so.   Just put your gift in an envelope and mark it Kiribati Project and place it in the offering bag.

Spring Fair – 21st October 2017
To ensure that everything is ready to go for our Spring Fair, there will be a short meeting on Sunday 17th September after church at around 11am.   Everyone is welcome to come and especially those setting up and organising stalls, please put this date in your diary.   Let’s look forward to our Spring Fair and I encourage everyone to get involved in some way. For all enquiries, please see Di Curtis (0419-862-606)

ToFs  –  It’s SHOEBOX time again!
Ladies are asked to bring their goods to our next meeting on September 5th for packing.
We will meet at the Church at 2 pm.
We have received a number of items from neighbouring Churches, to ‘kick start’ our boxes.
These consist of a good number of girls’ skirts, shoulder bags for both boys & girls and a large number of pencil casesWe also have a bag full of knitted teddies.
Any queries please contact Jenny Riggall, as Ros will be away on holidays.       Phone 8395 0112

“Music & Worship Gathering” – Tuesday 22nd August – 7.30pm – 9pm
One of our goals determined for Athelstone for the next few years is to establish a team that continues to foster vibrant and engaging worship each Sunday.   To get this happening I would like to invite anyone interested to come along to an initial gathering on Tuesday 22nd August, between 7.30pm – 9pm down in the chapel.
Come along for some singing, and some enthusiastic discussion about ways we can enhance our worship into the future.    I look forward to your company!                                                                                       Dianne Curtis (0419-862-606)

Cans of Food
Cans of Soup, Baked Beans, Casserole type meals, etc. are very welcome to be donated to Uniting Communities who in turn distribute them to those in need.   Please leave any contributions at the back of the church.

Rev Linda Driver’s Induction – Wednesday 30th August at 7.30pm.
Please come along to witness the induction of Rev. Linda Driver into her role as Minister of the Word at Athelstone Uniting on Wednesday 30th August at 7:30pm.  The induction service will be followed by a shared supper.
Please bring along a plate of food to share.   We are hoping that we will have a number of guests joining us to celebrate this occasion with us, including Linda’s family, members of nearby congregations, presbytery, and members of government.

A note from Church Council

  • We would like to extend a big thank you to Dillon Mullins for all of his work on church council. After much prayerful consideration, Dillon has resigned from church council to enable him to walk forward in faith and focus on his next chapter in life.  We have decided to keep this position vacant until our elections at the AGM in November.
  • Over the last month we have been talking about the new opportunities that we can have as a church to share the Gospel and serve our community if we increase our regular giving. Thank you to everyone for your participation and support of the Stewardship program so far. If you have not yet returned your eGive form to UC Invest or set up direct debit from your internet banking, it isn’t too late.  We look forward to letting you know the impact of the Stewardship program in the coming months.
  • As a council we have also been organising for renovation of the manse in preparation for Linda commencing her ministry at Athelstone. This work is ongoing, with the manse not having had significant work on it for the past 20 or so year.
  • In addition to our maintenance at the manse, we have also had some additional unexpected maintenance costs at the church, with the office air conditioner dying and requiring replacement.
  • We are looking forward to welcoming Linda to Athelstone at the end of the month and working with her into the future. – Victoria

Prayer Chain – Brenton is away, so please send emails to Lee O’Connell at  leeoconnell56@gmail.com

Thanks to Allan for the installation of the farm gate, children are now restrained from running out onto the public footpath and road while at Stay and Play.  The gate is usually left open so people are still welcome to walk the path freely.  Also thanks to David for some great wooden boards and to Bruce for his handyman skills, we now have a permanent chalkboard mounted in “The Nook” in the Wirra. We have more plans for David’s boards, so watch this space!   There are plenty of different ways you can contribute to Stay and Play, so come and join the team.    For enquiries please contact either Sharyn in the office or Joy & Bruce Stewart on 83362671 or email bruceandjoy@bigpond.com.
