We aim to raise $2,000-$2,500 to support the Church in Kiribati develop a fresh water supply for the people in a diminishing situation. Our BBQ is one way to help raise the money, the other is through direct giving. Anything you are able to contribute will be greatly appreciated. “Spring Fair” – Saturday, 21st October, 2017
The Spring Fair will be held on 21st October, this year, (note the fresh change of name for the event!). Please put this date in your diaries and plan to be involved for a day of fun together and engagement with our Athelstone Community. The shed is very empty so we are looking for donations of all saleable goods, with the exception of large furniture items. It is planned that the shed will be open Sunday mornings from 9.15-9.30am for you to fill it up with all your pre-loved items. For further information see Di Curtis, (on behalf of Church Council)
This month at church we are talking about money and opportunity. Currently as a church our expenses are greater than our income. To overcome this shortfall we need to increase our giving by 20% or $20,000 per year. This equates to roughly $10 per household per week.
An increase in giving will not just help balance our budget but also enhance our opportunities for living out our mission, for loving our community, for sharing the Gospel and taking on new challenges. The easiest way to give is via the eGive program through UC Invest. Forms are available on line via the UC Invest website or from our Treasurer Glen Luestner.
Prayer Chain – Brenton is away, so please send emails to Lee O’Connell at firstname.lastname@example.org

Shoe Boxes of Love
It is time to start thinking about what you could put into a shoebox. Although we will not be collecting them until late September/early October you could already be sewing, knitting or buying. I will have access to the brochures in the next few weeks if you would like one now. Just let me know.
Thank you for your past involvement in this program. Any questions please talk to Friederike 0458078839

Numbers continue to rise and we need more helpers to allow the great team we already have, to take time for “R and R”, so please make contact, contribute and be part of this great outreach. For enquiries please contact either Sharyn in the office or Joy and Bruce Stewart on 83362671 or email email@example.com
How can you make a difference?
At our recent study group where we have been studying “The Faith Effect” we discussed how we as an individual can make a difference in the world. Some people sponsor a child through ‘World Vision’; others buy TEAR fund projects; others spend time working in an op-shop or a soup kitchen while still others donate to worthwhile charities. These all make a difference.
Have you ever thought about using ethically sourced toilet paper? I was introduced to a company called “Who Gives a Crap?” by some Christian friends. This company produces toilet paper by recycling other paper products and uses no chlorine, ink, dyes or scents for this. The other plus is that they donate 50% of their profits to WaterAid which provides toilets and sanitation in developing countries. Did you know that for every roll of this toilet paper that you buy, you’re helping to provide someone with access to a toilet for roughly one week?
I have been using this toilet paper for almost a year now and recently also purchased the paper towels and tissues they produce. You cannot buy this in a retail outlet but they deliver to your door for free! To find out more about them and to place an order just look them up https://au.whogivesacrap.org/ Perhaps someone else would like to share how they, too, make a difference. Friederike

Packing Day is an excellent way in which we can serve Aboriginal communities in northern Australia. After 2 successful years of coordinating Packing Day, Ros is ready to hand over the reins to someone else. We are looking for a small team of volunteers to co-ordinate the event at Athelstone in 2018. If you are interested in taking on part of this role, please contact Victoria.
Cans of Food
Cans of Soup, Baked Beans, Casserole type meals, etc. are very welcome to be donated to Uniting Communities who in turn distribute them to those in need. Please leave any contributions at the back of the church.
