Sunday, 3rd December 2017
Greetings and welcome to this week’s newsletter.
A Note from Linda
Congratulations to all who helped in any way with the Christmas Tree Festival. It is a wonderful way to connect with our local community and it gave us all a taste of the wonder and joy that is to come.
This Sunday marks the beginning of the New Year in the Church calendar. This is the season of Advent, a time of waiting, a time of preparation. For the next few weeks, we re-trace the story of the coming of the Christ child through the words of Luke.
O Come, O Come, Emmanuel!
Hope to see you at the Community Carols on Sunday evening!
December 3 – First Sunday of Advent:
This week follow the story of Amba, a refugee in Ethiopia who fled from her homeland after her husband was shot in the leg. Learn how your gifts to the Christmas Bowl are helping people like Amba and her family
Christmas Bowl to support Rohingya Refugees
The National Council of Churches in Australia has decided that a portion of funds raised through this year’s Christmas Bowl appeal will be given directly to support the Rohingya people forced to flee their homes in Myanmar to reach the border into Bangladesh where they are taking refuge.
Your gift to the Christmas Bowl can:
– Provide desperately needed food and water
– Provide emergency shelters to ensure families feel safe and protected
– Provide medical care to people arriving in Bangladesh with severe, life-threatening injuries.
This is one of the worst humanitarian crises of our time. Please give generously. ‘ Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me’ – Matthew 25:40.
Envelopes are available from today in the porch for your donation.
Tear Fund Catalogues and Cards
Tear Fund’s Useful Gifts Catalogues and cards are available from today from Don and Brian at the gift table near the servery.
Uniting Communities Christmas Treats
Thanks to all who have already purchased a Christmas Treat for needy families and placed it under the Christmas tree at the door .
You are invited to continue sharing your love in this way throughout Advent and the Christmas season.
ToFs Christmas Lunch
Please join us on Tuesday Dec 5th at 12.30pm for lunch at The Rezz. Everyone is welcome, particularly close friends, partners and spouses. Let Jenny or Ros know if you’re coming.
Thank you for your company and support throughout 2017 as we’ve shared with each other.
Christmas Blessings, Jenny and Ros
On behalf of the 2017 Christmas Tree Festival Committee I would like to thank members of our Athelstone Uniting Church family/congregation for their help and support before and during this year’s successful festival with a record number of entries (approx 67 exhibits) and over 600 people attending which included many young families. We have also had much appreciated support from the Campbelltown Council together with good exposure in the Local Newspaper. A great outreach event within our community.
Many thanks, Julie
Many thanks to all who helped make the Devonshire Tea such a success; either by helping in the kitchen or making scones. We had many favourable comments. Once again thank you all.
Raelene and the Christmas Tree Committee.
In the kitchen
Please collect the plastic containers and plates that have accumulated in the kitchen over the last weeks from several events. Thank you, Sharyn

DATES for 2017 – Term 4 5th December
COMMENCEMENT DATE 2018 is 6th February
It was great to welcome several of our Stay and Play families, including two who no longer attend, at the Christmas Tree Festival.
Our last Stay and Play for 2017 will be held at the Fox Avenue Reserve, picnic style. With increasing families enjoying the fortnightly programme, we would really appreciate some more helpers to move furniture before and after the session, and help to cut up fruit and wash dishes. Just half an hour of your time will help to support the regular team. Come and join the fun in 2018!
Please consider how you could help in 2018 and have a chat to Joy or Bruce. email@example.com
