Newsletter for Sunday 8th July 2018

Sunday 8 July 2018
Greetings and welcome to this week’s newsletter
A Note from Linda
“Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise” (Psalm 48:1) This is our second week with the Psalms. The Psalms are songs, poems and prayers that express a huge range of emotions, poured out from the heart. We’ll have a look at how they can help our own prayer life. This week we’ll be praising God through the victory Psalm, Psalm 48. Our God is great!!
To those who may not have heard, God is faithful – we didn’t have to wait long for our grandchild to be born. Hugh Jeremy Hans Driver arrived on Sunday at 11.52am! Another precious grandchild for us to love.
NAIDOC Week begins this Sunday. It is appropriate at this time to acknowledge the Kuarna people, whom God has placed as the original custodians of this place on which we meet. We acknowledge the wisdom of their Elders, both past and present and honour their continuing culture, and pray that we might all work
together for reconciliation and justice in this nation. Read on for more information about NAIDOC Week.
Blessings, Linda
NAIDOC Week
Under the theme – Because of Her, We Can! – NAIDOC Week 2018 will be held nationally from this Sunday 8 July and continue through to Sunday 15 July. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have played – and continue to play – active and significant roles at the community, local, state and national levels.
NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. To follow the celebrations or find out more information, visit the NAIDOC Week website: https://www.naidoc.org.au/
Help needed for Gardening Sat. July 7, 9am
As you would be aware, Geoff Burford has been hospitalised for some time and the indications are that he is hoping to return home soon. Currently Geoff and Vicki’s front garden needs some work (ie weeding of soursobs etc) and the pastoral care team is seeking your assistance for an hour or two next Saturday morning (7th July) at 9.00 am to do a bit of a “front yard blitz”.If you are able to help in anyway, it would be very much appreciated by Vicki.

Uniting Church Assembly – July 8-14
For many weeks now, we have been praying for the Uniting Church Assembly meeting commencing this Sunday. (The Assembly is the national council of our Church and has responsibility in matters of doctrine, worship, government and discipline, sets national policy and promotes the Church’s mission in the world.) Among a number of important matters on the agenda, are Reports and Proposals on Marriage and Same-Gender Relationships. Briefly, this includes a Proposal to adopt a new policy statement on marriage between two people to live together for life. The Proposal includes freedom of conscience for Ministers to accept (or decline) requests to celebrate same-gender marriages and for Congregations to permit or refuse the use of their property for the use of same-gender weddings. Across the breadth of the Uniting Church, this has been received in many different ways, with some folk welcoming proposed changes, some who are deeply concerned and some who are still discerning what Christ is asking of his Church. Please consider reading the proposal (and subsequent proposals) prayerfully (https://uniting.church/ ) and contact Linda if you have any questions. Please continue to pray for the elected members at the upcoming Assembly and incoming President Deidre Palmer.

Prayer Requests
Can we support you in prayer? Here’s how:
Prayer Chain – send an email to, or call Brenton Summers, who will pass your prayer request on to a group of people who faithfully pray in response to Prayer Chain emails.
Confidential Prayers – if the issue is more personal you are invited to contact Linda for individual prayer
or one the members of the Pastoral Care Oversight team (Brenton Summers, Ann Brown, Bob Stevenson and Linda). All prayer requests going to the team will be kept strictly confidential within this team.
Prayers for Others (Sunday Worship) – Linda provides our Worship Leaders with prayer points as appropriate. Prayer points are also sourced from the Prayer Chain. If you have something you would like to be included in Prayers for Others, please contact Linda.
We are all called to pray for one another, and so we are all encouraged to offer to pray for, or with others, especially if they share a concern with you. (James 5:13-16)
