Packing Day
Packing Day is an excellent way in which we can serve Aboriginal communities in northern Australia. After 2 successful years of coordinating Packing Day, Ros is ready to hand over the reins to someone else.  We are looking for a small team of volunteers to co-ordinate the event at Athelstone in 2018.  If you are interested in taking on part of this role, please contact Victoria.

DATES for Term 3 2017 –1st August, 15th August, 29th August, 12th September, 26th September
We have farewelled Michael for the rest of the year and Joy and Bruce will be away for 1st August and possibly 29th August.   Thankfully, we still have a skeleton team to maintain the high standards our carers and children have come to expect at Stay and Play.  However, numbers continue to rise and we need more helpers to allow the great team we already have, to take time for “R and R”, so please make contact, contribute and be part of this great outreach.
For enquiries please contact either Sharyn in the office or Joy and Bruce Stewart on 83362671 or email bruceandjoy@bigpond.com.

Wirra Words of the Week
“Gardens contain unnatural features (eg lawns, borders, hedges etc)
A wirra contains only the natural.”  Wal Bushman

Einadia nutans (climbing saltbush)

Einadia nutans (climbing saltbush), an enchanting herb with stems capable of lengthy trailing or climbing, is growing vigorously in the wirra.  It represses weed growth and withstands the trampling of little feet!  It also protects the perennial bulbs from soil disturbance and allows the latter to reseed and multiply. It will produce tiny green flowers followed by scarlet fruit/berries. When the wirra  is viewed from the supermarket car park, the Einadia gives a sculptural feel to the wirra with mini hills and valleys that, to me, symbolises and reflects Black Hill and The Sugar Loaves in the distance, and I feel as though I can wander through a miniature landscape when I explore the pathways in the wirra.
