Sunday 6th May 2018
Greetings and welcome to this week’s newsletter
A note from Linda
Paul and I have just returned from a relaxing week away in Tasmania. We spent our time in the south east of the state enjoying the beauty of the forests, rivers, lush valleys and wild seas. Wonderful! It is at times like this when we go away, that we get to step briefly out of our day-to-day routine and reflect on our life. It’s a bit like being on a metaphorical balcony, looking out on your life, from ‘above’, as it were. I’ve had a little time to do just that and have come home with an even bigger appreciation for the privilege that it is to be doing life with you all, in our own beautiful part of the world. It’s good to be back!
And.. it’s so good to have Sharyn back! Please continue to pray for her as her shoulder continues to heal and she slowly eases back into her normal hours. Please join me in showing our continued appreciation of our wonderful volunteers: Coralie, Stella, Janet and Ann. Thank you!!
While I’m showing appreciation, did you know that for more than 13 years Jan Robin has been editing this newsletter each week? Thank you Jan for your long and faithful volunteer service! Recently Stella Waugh has joined Jan and together they are sharing the preparation of our weekly news. Thank you both so much!
Beginning this week, we will be exploring new ways of gathering our ‘Prayers of the People’ for Sunday worship. The Prayer Book has been a valued tool for a season. However, there have been a number of concerns raised regarding the use of the book. Following consultation with Church Council, the Worship team and the Pastoral Care Oversight team it has been decided to seek other ways of bringing our petitions to God.
For now then, how will we gather our prayers? We encourage you to increase your use of our Prayer Chain (send an email to, or call Brenton Summers). Please remember that if you are passing on a prayer request for someone else, please check that you have their permission to do so.
Our Worship Leaders will be provided with prayer points as appropriate. They will endeavour not to name individuals as this can and has caused some distress and confusion. If the issue is more personal you are invited to contact Linda or one of the members of the Pastoral Care Oversight team (Brenton Summers, Ann Brown, Bob Stevenson and Linda). We are called to pray for one another, and so we are all encouraged to offer to pray for, or with others, especially if they share a concern with you. (James 5:13-16)
Thanks in anticipation of your flexibility and grace as we make this change. Linda

We are exploring offering this once a month on Sunday afternoons. If you are interested in being involved, please contact Linda and you may also like to consider exploring it further through the Messy Church State conference coming up in June:

Uniting Church Assembly – Melbourne 8-14 July
We have received a message from our Moderator, Rev Sue Ellis regarding the upcoming 15th Triennial Meeting of the Uniting Church in Australia Assembly, which will be held in Melbourne from 8-14 July, 2018.
The first lot of papers are being released on the Assembly website here https://uniting.church/ including reports relating to marriage and the Royal Commission. The Moderator knows that people have been concerned about the Assembly proposals, conversations and decisions, and how they might affect our congregations and faith communities. With this in mind, she is initiating a series of listening forums. She has invited mission networks to host some of these forums in May and June 2018, and will be inviting other groups to share their thoughts with her as well. The details of these listening forums are still being determined. Further information will be shared through UC e-News and New Times online in the coming weeks. All Uniting Church members are invited to visit the Assembly meeting website and to subscribe for updates. Please keep the Assembly, elected members and Uniting Church leaders in your prayers
