Hiring our Facility

The Athelstone Uniting Church Building is available for hire.

Location

Athelstone Uniting Church is located on the corner of Fox Avenue and Kantilla Drive in Athelstone, South Australia.  The church is nestled in a peaceful suburban setting, surrounded by quiet residential streets and the natural beauty of nearby parks and walking trails.  Directly across from the church, the Athelstone Shopping Centre offers a variety of shops and cafes, including a local IGA supermarket, a bakery and other specialty stores. For those needing takeaway, or additional items for your events, the larger Newton Shopping Centre is just a 5-10 min drive away.  The church has its own dedicated car park.

Rooms for Hire

We have multiple spaces available for hire. These include our:

Auditorium – 351m2 with separate entry (19.5m2) from carpark. Seats approximately 120. Features include main stage, side stage, serving window to kitchen, separate entry foyer (19.5m2) and a small quiet room off the entry foyer. Wheelchair accessible.

Lower Hall – 80m2 with separate entry from outside deck. Use of the 40m2 protected deck, which overlooks our wakwakanarku wirra (Native Garden – Children’s Forest) is included when hiring.

Meeting Room – 51.8m2 with conference table (seats 8 -10) with room for additional seating as required, accessed via lower hall. Overlooks a small courtyard.

Kitchen – fully equipped kitchen with separate serving windows to auditorium and lower hall, hired at an additional cost when hiring other spaces.

Whole Building – exclusive hire of the whole building is also available.

All rooms have heating and cooling. The facility also includes an accessible bathroom, baby change table, high chairs, long trestle tables, small square tables, chairs, defibrillator.

All areas are available for long term, infrequent, or one-off hire. For one-off hire, a minimum hire period of 3 hours applies. Please remember to include time to set-up and pack-up in your booking times.

Potential hirers are invited to tour the venue and to discuss any specific requirements with our office administrator.  Tours must be arranged ahead of time to ensure the building is not otherwise in use and will preferably be booked on a Tuesday or Thursday morning when our church office is open.

Hiring Process

Before hiring our facility you will need to:

  • Complete a license agreement as directed by the office coordinator.
  • Pay the refundable security bond by the due date as indicated in the license agreement. The bond is usually set at $150.00 and is held as a bond for the key/s and any breach of the hire agreement by the User.
  • One-off hirers must pay the full hire fee in advance as per the date in the license agreement. Longer term, frequent hirers are to pay the fee as per schedule agreed between office administrator, hirer and Treasurer.
  • Organisations or business owners, will need to provide a certificate of currency for public liability insurance (unless you fit in one of the categories listed as exempt on the license agreement).

^ any variations of this fee needs to be approved by the Church Council Executive.

Users of our facility are welcome to make use of our garden spaces:

Wakwakanarku wirra – Children’s Forest: The wirra is a community endemic garden at the front of the church along Fox Ave. Includes reading nook, nature play, street library.

Peace Garden: Our labyrinth is located in the small Peace Garden on the corner of Kantilla Drive and Kerley Cresent.

Community Garden: This is a space where all are invited to connect with our community by growing healthy food together.
