wakwakurnaku wirra – Children’s Forest Athelstone

The wirra is a community endemic garden at the front of the Church (along Fox Ave).
Wakwakurnaku Wirra, or Children’s Forest, is a wonderful community initiative designed to connect people with nature and offer enriching experiences for children and families. Located with convenient access, it features a diverse array of local flora and offers an inclusive environment with a wheelchair-accessible main path and various smaller paths composed of different materials for exploration. The forest is home to several permanent activities, such as a Children’s Street Library, The Rock Pot for SA ROCKS, a Musical Fence, and unique areas like The Nook and Wardli, ensuring there is always something engaging to do. Additionally, special activities are organized during events to enhance the experience. With free entry and flexible visiting hours, families can drop in at their convenience. Parking is available either in the church, which has step access, or at the nearby shopping centre across Fox Avenue, making it easy for everyone to enjoy this delightful garden space.
