For all of us who attend here, Athelstone Uniting Church (AUC) is the place where we gather to worship, encourage one each in Christian love and find ways to share God’s love through connection and service.
Formalising membership doesn’t really affect that… so why become a full member?
Firstly, it helps the leaders lead. Our Church Council has responsibility in Christ to shepherd the flock. It’s really helpful for us to know who the flock actually are!
Secondly, it means that you can help us make decisions. By becoming a member of AUC you are saying “I get what AUC is about and I want to help us get to where God is calling us”. According to the current ordering of the church, you won’t be able to formally vote on decisions or become a member of our Church Council if you’re not a full member.
What do we mean by Full Member?
A Full Members is either ‘Confirmed’ or a ‘Member-in-Association’.
A Confirmed Member has made a public declaration of their faith at AUC. For some this means affirming the promises their parents made if they were baptised as a child. For others, it means they were baptised as an adult. For others, it means transferring full membership from another Uniting Church or denomination.
A Member-in-Association is a confirmed member of another Christian denomination but not actively engaged in the life of that Church. They do participate in the life of AUC and accept the polity and discipline of the Church.
An Adherent is a person who, though not Confirmed or Baptised or a Member-in-Association, regularly attends the services of worship and shares in the life of the Church.
A Baptised member is a person who was baptised as an infant and has not yet been Confirmed as an adult.
More about Athelstone Uniting (AUC)…
Located at the heart of Athelstone, we share a heart for our community. For us, as Christians, the cross is at the centre of our faith. Jesus’ life, death and resurrection have shaped who we are as God’s people. Following in the example of Jesus, our arms are open for building relationships with our local community, our world and each other.
We are a welcoming Church and place high value on loving, supporting and encouraging each other in our spiritual journeys. We enjoy being creative. We are inclusive and accepting, with a desire to see social justice needs met in the local and wider community. We are community focused, with our members being actively involved in many facets of community life.
If you would like to take the next step towards full membership at Athelstone, please contact our church office, or our Minister to discuss further.
