Thank you, thank you, thank you Athelstone community for your support with Packing Day.
Once again we have successfully completed another Packing Day in record time. This year we not only packed for northern indigenous communities and Goodwill but we added goods for the APY Lands in South Australia.
It is truly a team effort at Athelstone and I would sincerely like to thank everyone who was involved whether : catering, packing, sorting, coordinating one of the communities, re-cycling, putting boxes together, transporting goods to Balhannah, making soup and cakes/slices/biscuits………
Special thanks to Sharyn in the Church Office who supported the event by sending out emails, responding to phone calls and helping to unload goods as they arrived prior to the Packing Day event.
This is a great opportunity for you to be involved locally in the Outreach of the Uniting Church. I hope that you will set aside some time on the first weekend in June next year and join us in the time of fun and fellowship that is Packing Day. Jayne Nicholas
Packing Day is an activity of National and World Mission Support
(Sub-Committee of Uniting Church Adult Fellowship SA Synod Committee)
For 3 days in June, the Uniting Church in Athelstone becomes a hub for collecting, sorting and packing pre-loved and new clothing, manchester, toys and stationery to be sent to remote aboriginal communities across northern and central Australia. This continues a long annual tradition of outreach and mission from churches all around South Australia.
This event is a chance for our church community to engage in some fellowship and we would love to have you join us in the camaraderie of the Packing Day.
As in previous years we are collecting for the communities north of Darwin so require clothing and manchester that would be suitable for these tropical destinations.
Click below for a flyer detailing the goods required. Along with used goods, there are some new items that could be purchased – underwear, stationery, toiletries.
If you have any questions please ask Jayne Nicholas.
